Today I am thankful for people who will stand up for their rights and the rights of others.
I live about 2 hours away from Rockwood, TN. Over the past few months, I have been following breed specific legislation proposed in that city, thanks to my good friend Jodi over at Bless the Bullys. Like I have mentioned in previous blogs, we adopted our dog, Bo, from Jodi’s rescue in October 2004. In the summer of 2005 a county commissioner attempted to introduce breed specific legislation that would severely restrict ownership of dogs like Bo. Local responsible dog owners and rescue groups banded together to oppose this, and Jodi drove 2 hours round-trip to be at every county commission meeting to help us with factual information with which we could fight this proposal. We won, and the county commissioner DID NOT get re-elected the following year, due in large part to the rude and condescending manner in which he treated those of us that opposed him. Word spreads in a small community.
Fast forward to Rockwood this year. You can read all about it in Jodi’s blog here. I am constantly amazed at the arrogance of small town politicians. You would think they ran the whole country. I hope and pray that enough citizens in the community took notice of their behavior and do the same thing we did in Sumner County – get rid of them.
If you are a resident of Rockwood, let your voice be heard. Let your city council member, and especially your jerk of a mayor, know that you DO NOT appreciate this kind of behavior in your elected officials.
As for me, I usually drive through Rockwood several times a year on my way to visit family. We always stop for gas and a snack there. NEVER AGAIN. That community will NOT be getting any of my tax dollars, as least not until leadership has changed.
